Castlegregory is also the home of the near extinct Natterjack Toad, a creature much beloved in the area, which has proliferated since the course began. Established 1895 Arnold Palmer’s first course in Europe offers a traditional links challenge, with the sea in view from almost every hole. The opening hole leads to a green overlooking the Long Strand featured in Ryan's Daughter. Below is the watery grave of the wreck onward of Swansea (1877).
